The Holy Spirit (Part 01) - Names and Titles I. Introduction 1. The Holy Spirit is often misunderstood, maligned, overemphasized (compared to other persons of the Trinity), or overlooked. 2. The purpose of this study is to provide a Biblical understanding of the Holy Spirit and to enable Christians to know Him and be filled with Him. II. The Holy Spirit is the Holy Ghost. 1. The “Holy Spirit” is only mentioned seven times in the Bible (Psa 51:11; Isa 63:10-11; Luk 11:13; Eph 1:13; Eph 4:30; 1Th 4:8) 2. The Holy Ghost A. The Holy Spirit and the Holy Ghost are different names for the same being (Eph 4:30 c/w Heb 3:7-10 c/w Isa 63:10). B. The Spirit is called the Holy Ghost (Joh 7:39; Act 2:4). C. Ghost n. – The soul or spirit, as the principle of life; also ghost of life. 6. Formerly used in the sense of SPIRIT (of God). Now only in HOLY GHOST, the usual designation of the Third Person of the Trinity in liturgical and dogmatic language. D. Holy Ghost n. – 1. The Divine Spirit; the Third Person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit. E. The “Holy Ghost” is mentioned 90 times in the Bible. III. Names and titles of the Holy Spirit 1. The Holy Spirit (Luk 11:13) 2.
