Acts (Part 34) - Acts 4:12-13 7. Acts 4:12 – Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. A. Neither is there salvation in any other: i. Salvation is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ. a. Jesus Christ by Himself purged our sins (Heb 1:3).  b. God the Father gave Christ power over all flesh to give eternal life to as many as He had given Him (Joh 17:2). c. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life and no man comes to the Father but by Him (Joh 14:6). d. No man can know the Father without Jesus revealing Him to him (Mat 11:27). ii. Jesus Christ is God, the only Savior (Isa 43:11; Hos 13:4; Luk 2:11). iii. God will not give His glory to another (Isa 42:8). iv. There is no salvation in anything, or anyone, but the Lord Jesus Christ (1Jo 4:14). a. The scriptures do not save men eternally (Joh 5:39). b. Keeping the law of Moses does not save men eternally (Rom 8:3; Gal 2:21; Gal 3:21). c. Our works do not save us eternally (2Ti 1:9-10; Tit 3:5-7). d. Being a Jew or a son of Abraham does not save one eternally (Mat 3:9; Joh 8:37; Rom 9:6-8). e. Neither our will, nor any other man’s will, can save us eternally (Joh 1:13; Rom 9:16). f. Religion (any religion) does not save us eternally. B. for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. i. The Messiah was named JESUS because He would save His people from their sins (Mat 1:21). ii. At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Php 2:5-11). 8. Acts 4:13 – Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. A. Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, i. Boldness n. – The quality of being bold. 1. Courage, daring, fearlessness. ii. Bold adj. – 1. a. Of persons: Stout-hearted, courageous, daring, fearless; the opposite of ‘timid’ or ‘fearful’. 2. Of words, actions, etc.: Showing or requiring courage; daring, brave. iii. Pastors ought to be bold and courageous (Act 4:29, 31; Act 9:27, 29; Act 13:46; Eph 6:20). iv. Christians ought to likewise be bold (Php 1:14). v. Suffering and persecution should not diminish our boldness (1Th 2:2). vi. The righteous are bold as a lion (Pro 28:1). B. and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, i. Unlearned adj. – Not possessed of learning; uninstructed; untaught; ignorant. ii. Ignorant adj – 1. a. Destitute of knowledge, either in general or with respect to a particular fact or subject; unknowing, uninformed, unlearned. iii. The apostles were not rabbis, scribes, or lawyers, but fishermen (Mat 4:18- 22), publicans (Mat 10:3), and hillbillies (Mar 14:70-71 c/w Mat 26:73). C. they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. i. Jesus was bold and courageous (Joh 7:26). ii. Jesus was also not formally educated (Joh 7:15). iii. Jesus got His doctrine from the Father (Joh 7:16). iv. The apostles learned courage and acquired knowledge from Jesus.
