Acts (Part 30) - Acts 3:22 - How Jesus is Like Moses (Part C), Act 3:23 1. Jesus prayed for His persecutors (Luk 23:34 c/w Num 11:1-2 & Num 12:13 & Num 21:7). 2. Jesus was meek (Mat 11:29 & 2Co 10:1 c/w Num 12:3). 3. Jesus ordained men to help Him in His work (Mar 3:14-15 c/w Exo 18:15-26 & Num 11:10-17). 4. Jesus mediated a covenant between men and God (Heb 9:15 & Heb 12:24 & 1Ti 2:5 c/w Heb 9:18-21 & Psa 106:23 & Exo 32:9-14 & Deut 5:4-5 & Gal 3:19-20). 5. Jesus led His people to the promised land (Joh 12:26 & Joh 14:2-4 c/w Deut 34:1-4). 6. Jesus was faithful in all His house (Heb 3:1-2). 7. Jesus was made a ruler and a deliverer after being rejected by His people (Act 2:36 c/w Act 7:35). B. him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. i. God commanded the Israelites to hear all things that the Messiah would say to them. ii. When Jesus was transfigured on the mount, the Father again commanded men to hear Him (Mat 17:5). iii. The penitent and obedient Jews heard Him (Luk 15:1; Luk 19:47-48; Luk 21:38). iv. The unbelieving Jews couldn’t understand why the people heard him (Joh 10:20). v. His sheep hear His voice and follow Him (Joh 10:27). 2. Acts 3:23 – And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. A. Peter is quoting from Deut 18:19. B. And it shall come to pass, i. The judgment for not hearkening to the Messiah, foretold of in this verse, would and will surely happen. ii. The judgment will not be avoided. C. that every soul, i. God said “whosoever” in Deut 18:19. ii. Nobody will escape the judgment, even if they appear to at present. D. which will not hear that prophet i. God said, “will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name” in Deut 18:19. ii. Not hearing the Messiah was equivalent to not hearing God’s words because they were spoken in God’s name and by His authority (Joh 7:16; Joh 8:26- 28; Joh 12:49-50; Joh 14:10, 24; Joh 17:8). E. shall be destroyed from among the people. i. God said, “I will require it of him” in Deut 18:19. ii. Whoever would not hearken to the Messiah would be destroyed. a. “Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.” (Pro 13:13) b. Transgressors shall be destroyed and cut off (Psa 37:38). iii. This happened to the Jews who did not heed Jesus’ warning to depart Jerusalem when they saw it surrounded by the Roman armies (Mat 23:37- 38; Luk 21:20-24). iv. This will happen at the last day to all the wicked who obey not the truth which Jesus spoke (2Th 1:7-9).
