Proverbs 11:31 (Mini Sermon)



 

1. Pro 11:31 – “Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.” A. Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: i. Definitions a. Behold v. – I. To hold by, keep, observe, regard, look. 7. trans. a. To hold or keep in view, to watch; to regard or contemplate with the eyes; to look upon, look at (implying active voluntary exercise of the faculty of vision). arch. This has passed imperceptibly into the resulting passive sensation: b. To receive the impression of (anything) through the eyes, to see: the ordinary current sense. b. Righteous adj. – 1. a. Of persons: Just, upright, virtuous; guiltless, sinless; conforming to the standard of the divine or the moral law; acting rightly or justly. c. Recompense v. – 1. trans. To reward, requite, repay (a person) for something done or given. d. In other words, we are exhorted to watch, regard, and contemplate the fact that upright men who conform themselves to the standard of God’s law will be rewarded, requited, and repaid by God in this life (in the earth). ii. God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Heb 11:6). iii. God rewards and repays the righteous for the good they do in this life. a. There is great reward for keeping God’s word (Psa 19:11). b. God rewards people according to (corresponding to) their righteousness (2Sa 22:21). c. Those that sow righteousness will have a sure reward (Pro 11:18). d. Those who give to the poor will be repaid by God (Pro 19:17). e. Those who give alms, pray, and fast secretly will be rewarded openly (Mat 6:1-4, 6, 18). f. Those who love their enemies, do good, and lend hoping to not be repaid have a great reward awaiting them (Luk 6:35). g. Those who keep the faith have a great recompense of reward (Heb 10:35). h. If we are faithful and don’t lose the things we have worked for, we will receive a full reward (2Jn 1:8). i. Preachers who do their work faithfully will receive a reward from God (1Co 3:8, 14; 1Co 9:17-18; 1Ti 5:18). iv. God will also reward and repay the righteous in the next life on the new earth. a. Christians who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake shall be rewarded in heaven (Mat 5:10-12). b. Jesus Christ will reward every man according to his works at His second coming (Mat 16:27; Rev 22:12). c. The good we do for people in this life will be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (Luk 14:13-14). d. At the final judgment God will render to the righteous according to their deeds (Rom 2:6-7, 10). B. much more the wicked and the sinner. i. Definitions a. Much adv. – 1. In a great degree; to a great extent; greatly. b. More adv. – 1. In a greater degree, to a greater extent. b. qualifying an adj. or adv., to form the comparative. c. Wicked adj. – 1. Bad in moral character, disposition, or conduct; inclined or addicted to wilful wrong-doing; practising or disposed to practise evil; morally depraved. (A term of wide application, but always of strong reprobation, implying a high degree of evil quality.) d. Sinner n. – 1. One who sins; a transgressor against the divine law. e. In other words, in a similar manner to the way that the righteous will be rewarded by God in this life, but to a far greater degree and extent, those who practice evil, are morally depraved, and transgress God’s law will be requited and repaid by God for their evil deeds in this life. ii. God rewards and repays the wicked for the for evil they do in this life (Psa 91:8). a. God plentifully rewards the proud doer (Psa 31:23 c/w Psa 94:2). b. God rewards fools and transgressors with punishment (Pro 26:10). c. God will reward evil to the enemies of His people (Psa 54:5). d. We must never recompense evil to men who did evil to us, but rather let the LORD repay them (Rom 12:17-19). e. The Lord will reward those who do evil to His ministers (2Ti 4:14). iii. God will also reward and repay the wicked in the next life in the lake of fire. a. At the second coming of Christ God will recompense tribulation to those who troubled His saints (2Th 1:6-9). b. At the final judgment God will render to the wicked according to their deeds (Rom 2:6, 8-9). c. They will receive the reward of unrighteousness (2Pe 2:13).
